The problem
A year of entries drawn as a sky. Each star is a day, and the tags come from the model.
Journaling apps are good at storing text and bad at making you look at it again. I wanted something where the archive itself is the reward.
What I built
- An LLM tagging pass that reads each entry and names its theme, so days group themselves without me picking categories
- A deterministic star layout, so the same year always draws the same sky and you can see change over time
- Canvas rendering tuned to stay smooth past a full year of daily entries
- A year view that highlights the constellations you actually spent time in
The part I like most
The layout is stable. Stars do not reshuffle when you add an entry, so the shape of your year is something you learn to read.
Stack
Next.js, TypeScript, Canvas, and an LLM API for the tagging pass.
Availability
The code for this one is still private while I clean it up, so there is nothing to link to yet.
